Naming
The name is based on the neo-noir action film Oldboy (2003) directed by Park Chan-wook. The film follows the story of Oh Dae-su, who is imprisoned in a cell which resembles a hotel room for 15 years without knowing the identity of his captor or his captor's motives.
A similar feeling for those players who suffer the nostalgia and miss the good old days of the arcade gaming, the hypnotic RGB saturated tones and sounds of the machines in the arcade store.
We, as gamers, wish to return to that time. So, deep inside, we can be considered “old boys”.
Logo animation
The logotype plays with the concept of sizes: being a child in an adult body, having two weights that match the concept of growing up but still wanting to find spare time to play videogames.
The changing color background alludes to the tilt made by neon signs that illuminate the night in the old gaming stores.
